On December 10, Federica Bellerba presented findings from the EuCARE school study as a contributed oral presentation at the International Biometric Conference in Atlanta, US.
The results showed that preventive measures adopted during the pandemic, particularly distance learning, significantly affected the psychological health of students from Italy, Mexico and Portugal.
Distance learning was a worse experience for girls, leading to higher psychological difficulties compared to boys.
Mental health, socio-economic status, and mothers’ educational levels also played a key role in the learning loss observed among Italian students during the pandemic.
Overall, these findings highlight the importance of addressing students’ mental health in the post-pandemic debate.
