The EuCARE project was highlighted as an article in an important Italian newspaper, within the scope of a piece entitled: “What are the best actions to take in emergency situations”
The article includes interventions from EuCARE members: Prof. Giulia Marchetti, Dr. Francesca Incardona, Prof Sara Gandini and Prof. Pietro Lopalco.
Prof Giulia Marchetti underlines the importance of the Long-COVID study : “In EuCARE we confirm that the Omicron variants fortunately appear to be associated with a lower risk of developing long COVID. We are also studying the role of some anomalies in the immune response and the persistence of viral fragments that we have identified”.
On the other hand, Dr. Francesca Incardona highlights the importance of the project for the preparedness of a next pandemic “Covid 19 found us unprepared and some of the measures adopted were contested. Only through the study of real world data can we propose measures that are both effective and ethically acceptable”. Concerning the “Lolli methode” implemented in schools within the EuCARE project, she says: “… it could be of enormous support to allow the school to fully maintain its mission, even in times of pandemic”, highlighting its importance for the surveillance of SARS-CoV-2 circulation in schools.
Furthermore, Professor Sara Gandini, explains that “In schools, the study results also highlight alarming levels of anxiety, anger and sadness linked to containment measures such as the use of masks, distancing and the adoption of distance learning”.
Finally, Professor Pietro Lopalco underlines that “The results of EuCARE add an important piece to the evidence on the effects of the pandemic on schools, which we hope can also be useful to political decision making.”
