Sara Serrao, part of the EuCARE project management office has received her Master’s degree from the Netherlands Institute for Health Sciences with a thesis entitled: “The role of young women who sell sex in the HIV epidemic in urban Kenya: a mathematical modelling study”.
Her study explored the extent to which women who sell sex (WSS), and more specifically young women who sell sex (YWSS), historically sustained and currently continue to sustain the presence of HIV in the general population in urban Kenya. The study used a stochastic microsimulation model and explored 4 scenarios differing in HIV transmissions levels amongst WSS and YWSS.
