A new systematic review and meta-analysis, co-authored by EuCARE researchers, explores how persistent symptoms and health conditions following SARS-CoV-2 infection compare with those observed after other respiratory viral infections.
The research reviewed 22 studies, with 14 included in the meta-analysis.
The findings suggest that, while certain post-acute outcomes were more frequent after SARS-CoV-2 infection, many others were not significantly different from those observed following other respiratory viral infections.
These results highlight the importance of understanding both shared and pathogen-specific mechanisms behind post-acute infection syndromes — helping advance research into their long-term health consequences.
Congratulations to all the co-authors on this publication! 👏
