LONG COVID among Healthcare Workers (HCWs: burden and KAP study (surveys)
The study is an iniciative of the WHO HCW project, lead by Iris Finci– Consultant Epidemiologist from WHO Regional Office for Europe- and EuCARE has been asked to have participating centers
The information is updated on a regular basis*

WHY FOCUS ON HCWs

  • HCWs are at high risk for SARS-CoV-2 infection during the pandemic
  • 40% prevalence of Long Covid (LC) among infected HCWs (meta-analysis, 2025)
  • Limited data on HCWs’ knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) towards LC
  • HCWs’ perceptions influence patient diagnosis and care

Study Design

Cross-sectional survey using two independent electronic questionnaires

Study population and Inclusion: ≥18 years, active HCW in participating countries

Surveys hosted on Google Form or REDCap or similar secure platforms

Data anonymized and stored securely per GDPR

OBJECTIVE(S) OF THE SURVEY

Objective 1 (survey 1)- Burden

Survey 1 (burden) – expected 308 participants per site
  • To estimate prevalence and impact of LC among HCWs since 2020, including its prevalence and impact on quality of life since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020
  • All kind of HCWs are invited to participate (clinical and non-clinical)
  • Survey: COVID history, LC symptoms, quality of life impact

Objective 2 (survey 2)- KAP

  • Exclusive for HCWs who have direct contact with patients and may diagnose or manage LC patients (ex: MDs, GPs, nurses)
  • Survey 2: LC knowledge, attitudes, practices, diagnosis, and management

EXPECTED IMPACT AND NEXT STEPS

  • Share findings via reports, scientific publications, and presentations
