Dr. Federica Bellerba, from European Institute of Oncology (IEO) will be presenting the abstract entitled: “Exploring mental health of students during the COVID-19 Pandemic: an international study within the EuCARE project” at the 32nd International Biometric Conference (IBC) 2024 in Atlanta, Georgia (USA).
The International Biometric Conference is the bienal conference of the International Biometric Society, bringing together statisticians and other professionals to promote interdisciplinary collaboration for the development and application of statistical and mathematical methods for bioscience research.
The study conducted was part of the EuCARE schools study, evaluates the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the different dimensions of mental health of students from Italy, Portugal and Mexico.
Some major findings of the study shows that emotional problems increased with older age and Prosocial behavior decreased with age. Secondary schools’ students reported higher levels of total difficulties and conduct problems, compared to high school students that reported higher levels of emotional problems. Emotional problems were higher in students with longer periods of distant learning.
The study also found differences between genres. Girls appear to have experienced more emotional difficulties than boys. This study marked a milestone in understanding the impact of pandemic-related measures on students’ psychological symptoms across different grades and countries.
