In the final edition of our Insights from Rome series, we revisit the roundtable discussions from the Pandemic Preparedness Rome Conference, held on 1–2 October 2026.
Three perspectives highlighted important priorities for future pandemic preparedness:
Daniel Naumovas, Vice-Minister of Health of the Republic of Lithuania, emphasised the importance of accessible health data, transparent communication and evidence-based policymaking to strengthen public trust.
Roberto Ricci, President of INVALSI, highlighted why schools must be formally included in pandemic preparedness planning, supported by better educational data and research.
Marco Cavaleri, from the European Medicines Agency (EMA), called for stronger European clinical research infrastructure, ready-to-use protocols and sustained investment in medical countermeasures.
Different sectors. Shared challenges. One common goal: turning the lessons of COVID-19 into stronger, more coordinated preparedness for future health emergencies.
These discussions remind us that scientific knowledge creates lasting impact when it informs decisions, strengthens collaboration and supports action.
The EuCARE legacy continues.
